These are some very early sketches done when I was first concidering the idea of the detective and in turn something involving recognisable body bags (See script for more details). I like the imigery of the detective smoking, I think its a powerful shot as it could be concidered his only moment of relaxation in an otherwise highly stressful life. It is also identifiable as a negative feature (especially in cureent times) which helps to make the character less black or white in morals and moves slightly towards the more ambigous grey.
The body-bag is a simple design, I wanted a powerful logo of the geverment printed on the front so to help a guide for the viewer. in this example I chose a clenched fist which I think symbolised strength and power but in turn can be interpreted as control and even dictatorship. (To rule with an iron fist)
